Construction Accident Injury

In 2000, there were a total of 5,915 workers fatally injured on the job and this was just in the US alone. Amazingly this numbered had dropped by 2% from previous years. To average this out, it would work out to about sixteen workers a day so there is no wonder why such a high rate of construction accident injury is reported every year. In this total, construction workers took the lead of fatalities with 2,118, more than any other occupational group in the US.

Despite the work of OSHA rules and regulations, this amount of injuries can only be stopped in the work place itself. Here the owner of the site and the laborers can take measures to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of others. OSHA consults with employers and employees to make them aware of the hazards of the jobs they work on and to help prevent construction accident injuries from happening, not only for the construction workers, but also for every man and women that is employed.

When an employee is injured on a construction job, he/she most certainly has a lot more to worry about than just his injury. Along with that injury comes the loss of wages. If the worker is insured, he/she will still have go through a period of waiting, while his claim is checked out and the accident reported to the right authorities and sorted out. It is all waiting time for the one that’s injured and the family and if they are not financially ready for something like this, it could mean devastation for them. Then of course the nature of the construction injury will determine if and when the person can return to work. It is more than the injury that causes a family to be traumatized when their livelihood is put in danger - it is the uncertainty that goes along with it. In 2004 the number of fatal construction injuries rose 8%, but due to the increase of new workers in the workforce the rate was not significantly higher than the previous years. In realty, there were more construction workers injured and dying on construction sites. Fatal falls from ladders and roofs on construction sites increased by 17 percent, which was a new high recorded from years before. Even just construction injury from objects falling on worker’s heads or bodies rose 12%.

When you are employed on a construction site you are confronted with dangers of the job on a daily basis. This can lead to either a fatal injury or an injury that could disable a worker for the rest of his/her life and this happens all too frequently. Although Workers Compensation may compensate for lost wages, it does nothing for the pain and suffering that the injured construction worker may encounter and even sets limits on how long a worker can have for recuperating, which sometimes is indefinitely. If this is the case you may have to take legal action to ensure that you and your family are taken care of properly.

Construction Accident Injury is the reason for the many cases being tied up in the court today. This is due to the fact that the laws severely limit recovery for a construction accident. There are laws that preclude an employee from suing an employer, so workers compensation is the only option that is available to the one that’s been injured. That is not always the answer to a very serious problem.
