School Sues Insurance Company Following Floods
A school is suing its insurance company after being denied funds to cover the cost of damages caused by flooding, which occurred earlier this year. St. Paul’s School has spent around $5 million on repairs following the damage that occurred from the May floods, but the insurance company has refused to cover most of the cost.The school is now suing its insurer through the federal court system after submitting claims for damages and repairs to a dormitory, the fine arts building, the health center, the central heating plant, and the post office. The insurance policy had been renewed just prior to the flooding taking place.
In October officials from the school appealed against the insurance company’s decision not to cover the costs of repairs following the damage, but the appeal was unsuccessful and the school therefore had to turn to the courts in order to try and get the issue resolved.
The insurance company claims that many of the areas that were damaged were outside of the flood zone for which insurance cover in provided to the school, but school officials think otherwise.
