Woman Sues Over Sexual Harassment By Monk
A woman has filed a lawsuit claiming that she was sexually harassed by a monk while she was working at St. Bernard Abbey and Ave Maria Grotto. She further claims that after she filed an original complaint last year she was fired from her job.The plaintiff, Kathryn Preston, began working at the gift shop in the Ave Maria Grotto in 1994, and was later transferred to working in the gardens. She claims that over the last two years of her employment there she was sexually harassed by Brother Francis Dachs, who allegedly touched her and made inappropriate comments.
The lawsuit claims: "Brother Francis assaulted and battered the plaintiff by subjecting her to numerous unwanted touchings." The supervisor at the Abbey refused to comment on the allegations, stating: "It would be inappropriate to say anything."
According to the lawsuit, the monk in question had already been reprimanded by the supervisor of monks at the Abbey following complaints from the plaintiff, and that the supervisor had told the monk "It has also come to my attention that you have said things that I would consider inappropriate to other female employees of St. Bernard Abbey."
