Student Seeking $2 Million In Damages After Scuffle In School
A teenage student from Greenwood High School is seeking $2 million in damages after being involved in a scuffle at the school with a police officer. Video taped evidence showed that the white officer pointed his gun at the black students, who is said to have been unarmed.Eighteen year-old James Marshall had already been seeking $1 million in damages, but has now raised this to $2 million. Casey Wiggins, the officer involved, denies that his actions were excessive, but many have accused him of racism and have demanded that be fired from his job.
According to reports the video tapes show the office pointing the gun at an unarmed Marshall twice, and then finally grabbing him in a choke hold. The officer was on security duty at Greenwood High School, which has a predominantly black population.
According to the attorney representing the student, his "emotional condition is steadily deteriorating." He added: "He's getting worse instead of better. He's withdrawn and hasn't been eating much."
