Authors Appeal Over Da Vinci Code Ruling
Two authors have lodged an appeal against a ruling relating to the best selling book ‘The Da Vinci Code’, which was written by Dan Brown, and was turned into a hugely popular and controversial blockbuster movie last year, starring Tom Hanks and Sir Ian McKellan.According to the two authors that lodged the appeal, Dan Brown stole the theme for his book from a book that they had actually authored a couple of decades earlier. According to Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh the theme for the Da Vinci Code was taken from their work of non-fiction called "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail", which was published twenty years ago.
The Da Vinci Code is based on the theory that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, and also that he fathered a child to Mary. According to the theory the bloodline of Jesus and Mary still continues today, and the book and movie were at the center of controversy in religious circles.
The two authors appealed at a London court. They originally tried to sue the publisher of The Da Vinci Code, Random House, but after losing the case ended up paying around two million in legal costs for Random House.
