Families Of Pilots File Wrongful Death Lawsuits
The families of two pilots have filed wrongful death lawsuits after the pilots were killed when their aircraft crashed into a neighborhood. The lawsuits have named the airline as defendants, as well as the manufacturer of the aircraft, three parts manufacturer, and an aircraft maintenance company. The aircraft was being flown by the two pilots, Jesse Rhodes and Richard Peter Cesarz, in 2004. The pilots reported a double engine failure as they flew from Arkansas to Minneapolis.Nobody was injured on the ground when the plane crashed in Jefferson City, but the two pilots were killed. The lawsuit alleges that the pilots were unable to restart the engine due to faulty parts, including an oil pump. However, the manufacturers of the pump have stated that they are looking into the cause of the crash stating: “We can’t really comment until we know what caused the crash.”
There was nobody else on board other than the two pilots. It is reported that after hitting maximum altitude the two pilots reported the problems to Kansas City controllers.
The plaintiffs’ attorneys have alleged that problems with the pump were hidden by the manufacturer, GE. It is claimed that this created heat damage that prevented rotation of the jet engine blades.
