UK Man To File Three Million Pound Lawsuit
A man from the UK who is suffering from mental illness and severe memory loss is filing a lawsuit through his father for his injuries, which he claims resulted from delivery problems during his birth at the hospital where he was born in 1983. The man is now seeking three million GBP in damages as a result of his injuries.According to the plaintiff, Thomas James Phillips, part of his brain was damaged due to asphyxiation during his birth at the John Radcliffe Hospital in London, and this is the part that controls memory function. He is also said to have suffered mental problems since the age of sixteen, and this has also been blamed upon problems during delivery.
The South Central Strategic Health Authority, under which the hospital operates, has denied negligence in the case. However, according to reports one doctor at the hospital stated several weeks after the birth of Phillips in 1983 that "on delivery the baby was quite surprisingly in a somewhat asphyxiated state".
According to the lawyers working on behalf of the plaintiff and his father, further monitoring should have taken place once Phillips’ mother went into labor, and that this procedure would have been considered "reasonable and responsible medical practice".
