Former NFL Supervisor Sues League
A former NFL supervisor has filed a lawsuit against the league claiming that he was essentially fired because of his color – because he is white. The former supervisor filed his lawsuit against the league in federal court earlier this week.Earnie Frantz was a head linesman in the NFL from the beginning of the 1980s until 2001. He claims to have been fired as the associate supervisor of officiating in 2005, claiming that false complaints were lodged accusing him of being racially biased.
Part of Frantz’s duties as officiator involved grading officials at the end of each week, and according to complaints about the former supervisor ethnic minorities were graded more harshly than whites, with crew members complaining that the supervisor was exercising racial bias towards whites.
The lawsuit stated: "In terminating Mr. Frantz's employment, the NFL bowed to the pressure of the minority members of the officiating crews whom he supervised." An NFL spokesperson said: "While we have not seen the specific allegations, we know that Earnie Frantz's departure from the NFL had nothing to do with issues of race."
