Nearly Four Million Dollars In Compensation For Wrongly Imprisoned Man
A man who was wrongly imprisoned for seven years, and was released following DNA evidence, has received close to four million dollars in compensation from the city of Louisville, Kentucky. The man has spoken out about his experience, and says that although the money is useful it cannot make up for seven years of his life being lost.William Gregory, aged fifty-nine, has stated that he was falsely arrested, and this led to him spending seven years in prison until DNA evidence showed that he could not have been responsible for the rape for which he was arrested and imprisoned.
Following the DNA evidence and his subsequent release, Gregory stated: “In the coming days I plan to contact Police Chief Robert White and the Commonwealth’s Attorney David Stengel to share my concerns about procedures that led to crime victims to misidentify me.”
Metro Police Detective Larry Duncan said: “Well we do have more safeguards and more policies are in place, written policies are in place. All of the investigators are now aware of those policies, how you’re gonna put six people in a line-up every time.”
