School District To Pay Thousands Of Dollars To Family Of Autistic Student
The parents of an autistic young boy are to receive tens of thousands of dollars from a school district in order to settle a lawsuit. The Irvine Unified School District is to pay out to the family of the boy, who claim that they had to lavish staff with expensive gifts in order to ensure that their severely autistic son was looked after.The matter is also being investigated by the Orange County Grand Jury, which requested the settlement agreement from Irvine Unified School District. The seven year-old son of Thomas and Liya Lin was not toilet trained and could not speak according to reports, and the parents claim that they had to give gifts to staff to ensure he was cared for and properly schooled.
According to the claim made by the parents of the boy, which has been dropped since the settlement was agreed, around one hundred thousand pounds worth of diamonds, perfume, and other expensive gifts was lavished upon staff in order to ensure their son’s care.
As part of the settlement that has now been agreed by the School District the parents will receive around eighty thousand dollars for attorney fees and towards the cost of the child’s education since he was removed from the school. Funding will also be provided for the boy’s future therapy and behavioral analysis for the next eighteen months.
