Inmate Files Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Against Island County
An inmate from the Monroe Corrections Complex has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Island County, claiming that a staff member cancelled an eye appointment that had been booked for him in 2003, and this resulted in him losing the sight in one eye a month later.According to thirty-six year-old, Richard Pallaske, he was exposed to toxic chemicals during a raid on his home in 2003. He said that he complained of pains in his eye as he was being booked into jail, and at that time was taken to a hospital, where a follow-up appointment was made for him.
However, he adds that the follow-up appointment was then cancelled by an Island County Jail nurse, and a month later he lost sight in the eye. Acting as his own attorney, Palaske is claiming for over ten million dollars in damages over the incident.
He claims that Island County staff had total disregard for his well being, and ‘violated his rights to be free from cruel and unusual punishment’ in his court papers.
