Family Files Lawsuit Over Pesticide Spray
A brother and sister formerly of Prince Edward Island have decided to sue a potato farmer and the government over the spraying of pesticide, which they say poisoned them and their livestock. The pesticide was not sprayed on their property but drifted onto it according to the two. They were both living with their mother at the time on a farm in Prince Edward Island.When the incident occurred Zephie Kee-Allard was only 10-years-old, and lived with his younger sister, Alison, and mother, Jane. In 1998 the mother filed a lawsuit, and many of the points covered in this suit are the same as those made in the previous one. The lawsuit alleged that the dangerous pesticide was sprayed in an area where it was too windy to do so safely, and was also sprayed without any warning to the Kees.
The lawsuit also alleged that because of the pesticide drifting onto the Kee’s farm, nearly 60 purebred angora goats had to be put down due to poisoning from the chemicals. The claim against the government was because the Kees claimed that officials lost hair samples from the animals that would have proven the allegation of poisoning.
The potato farmer stated that he had been unaware of the chemical drifting on to the Kee’s farm. The provincial government also responded by denying the allegations that were made in the lawsuit.
