Lawyers Seek To Consolidate Wal-Mart Lawsuits
Lawyers dealing with lawsuits for up to a million former and current employees of Wal-Mart are seeking consolidation for the class action lawsuits for pre-trail rulings. The lawyers have approached a Florida federal judicial panel with a view to getting the class action lawsuits grouped together for this purpose. The lawsuits, which seem to continue to pile up against the retail giant, relate to workers being cheated out of both regular and overtime pay.With regards to grouping the class action lawsuits together for the purpose of pre-trial rulings, one attorney stated: “There have been inconsistent rulings. I’m seeing a lot of discovery problems.” As an example he stated that he had been denied evidence from Wal-Mart by one judge, but not by another judge in a different court.
An attorney for the retail chain has stated that it is not necessary to consolidate the class action suits. The panel is now considering the request made by the plaintiff’s attorneys, but has not yet disclosed when a decision is likely to be made with regards to the request.
A number of lawsuits have been filed against Wal-Mart alleging the staff members were having time and pay docked for time off that had not been taken or for hours that they had already worked.
