Lawsuit Over Gay Classroom Discussions Dismissed
A lawsuit that had been filed by enraged parents has been thrown out of court by a federal judge. The lawsuit was dismissed late last week, and related to the claims of angry parents in relation to discussions about homosexuality taking place in the classroom. The judge, Mark Wolf, concluded that parents’ rights to exercise religious beliefs were not violated by such discussions.According to the judge the two couples involved in filing the lawsuit had other options if they were unhappy about controversial discussions such as this. This included home schooling for their children or sending them to private schools. The couples could also ask for their children to be excluded from class during times of controversial discussion according to the judge.
Apparently Wolf wrote: "As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote in his journal, 'I pay the school master, but 'tis the school boys that educate my son.'" He added that the parents can select from the options that were suggested but could not dictate what the school teaches or discusses in the classroom.
However, the parents claim that they were not trying to dictate what was taught in the classroom, but would have liked to have been informed about the discussion in advance so that they could exclude their children if they wished.
