Man Sues Over Sexual Discrimination And Harassment In The Workplace
A man has filed a lawsuit against a Des Moines company claiming that he was the victim of sexual discrimination and harassment in the workplace. David Quick is suing the company, Emco Enterprises Inc., over the way that he was treated by some co-workers as well as by management.According to Quick on his first day on the job he tuned into a home and gardening program during the break, and a manager came in and after seeing what was on the television stated: "There must be a fag in the room." He further claims that after this many co-workers began to suspect that he was gay, and he experienced behavior such as notes being left for him stating ‘Emco hates gays’.
Furthermore, the forty-three year-old claims that when he spoke to management about the way he was being treated by some of his colleagues he was not helped but instead was retaliated against. He states that the way he was treated left him so depressed and stressed that he could not work.
Lawyers for Emco have stated that they cannot comment on pending legal action, although the company has denied the claims, stating that there was no harassment or wrong doing on the part of the company or its other employees. However, Quick has highlighted a number of instances where he was harassed and ridiculed as part of his lawsuit.
