Hempfield Files Suit Seeking To Recover Pension Overpayments
Supervisors at Hempfield Township have urged a judge to make two former employees repay pension monies that they received in overpayments. The plea has been put in with a Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court judge, and officials have asked that the two ex-employees pay back over $25,500 in total.It is claimed that one former employee who worked as a supervisor, Donald DeNezza, should have to repay over $15,000 that was allegedly overpaid to him after he left his job in 1994, having worked there since the 1970s. Officials stated that this former employee’s pension should have reduced to just over $450 per month from March 2003, having previously been over $1,300 per month.
The other former employee being asked to repay money is Nicholas Rullo, who was formerly the zoning officer. It is alleged by town officials that he owed over $8,000 in overpayments. It is claimed that his pension should have gone down to $80 dollars per month from nearly $650 dollars a month in 2003.
The township is also looking to receive compensation from the defendants for the cost of the litigation as well as interest payments on the monies owed.
