Cops Sue For Wrongful Dismissal
Five former Ocean Beach police officer have filed a federal lawsuit against the Ocean Beach Police Department, claiming that they were wrongfully terminated from their jobs because they tried to make a stand against the regime of police corruption and brutality that was taking place within the police department.According to the lawsuit filed by the dismissed officers, who were dismissed from their jobs last April, the department was rife with brutality and corruption. The lawsuit seeks three hundred and twenty five million dollars in damages from the police department.
The Acting Chief for the Ocean Beach Police Department has responded by claiming that the allegations are false. He did not give his reasons for firing the five officers, but simply stated that it was his prerogative to do so. According to the complaint he told some of the officers that they were fired because of budget cuts, and then told other people in the department that he had fired them because they were ‘rats’.
The former officers have highlighted a number of alleged cases of corruption, involving a range of issues such as drugs, underage drinking, and many others.
