As part of the settlement, the Educational Testing Service will be creating a fund of over $11 million in order to compensate teachers that have made claims because of the discrepancies. A New Orleans judge has given the settlement agreement preliminary approval.
As well as thousands of teachers being given incorrect scores that were lower than they actually achieved as part of the testing process, some were told that they had failed the test altogether when in fact they had not. The examination in question was the "Praxis Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12".
Last week it was also revealed that thousands of students taking the SAT exams had also received incorrect scores, and this was due to a computer error. With regards to the fund for payment to a claiming teacher, a specially appointed court official will determine how the fund is to be divided.
