University Sued By Sorority
DePauw University is being sued by a sorority that was expelled after accusations that it was evicting members on the basis of the way that they looked and how popular they were. The University accused the sorority, Delta Zeta, of accepting only attractive and popular students and getting rid of those that did not fit these criteria.The sorority has now filed a lawsuit against the University in the US District Court in Indianapolis. The lawsuit accuses the university of defamation, breach of contracts and promises, and interfering with sorority business.
The sorority claims in the lawsuit "that Delta Zeta did not make any decision based on appearance and race." The lawsuit wants DePauw University to acknowledge this. An attorney for the sorority stated that the sorority hopes to reach a settlement with the university.
The lawsuit that has been filed seeks unspecified damages, both punitive and compensatory, as well as retractions of various statements that the university allegedly made, and a public apology.
