20th Century Fox Sued By Sci-Fi Writer
A Chinese sci-fi writer claiming that his ideas were stolen and turned into a blockbuster movie is suing the movie giant 20th Century Fox, along with a number of Chinese companies. The writer claims that the companies and the moviemaking giant stole his story idea and then proceeded to use it to make the movie ‘The Day After Tomorrow’.The copyright infringement lawsuit has been filed by forty-three year-old Li Jianmin. According to reports he claims that ideas from two stage plays that he had penned in 2001 and 2002 had been snatched and used to make the hit movie.
According to Jianmin, over three hundred scenes in the movie had been described in the two plays that he had written. Defendants in the lawsuit include 20th Century Fox, the movie’s director, Roland Emmerich, and five Chinese companies, which were responsible for the distribution, screening and import of the movie.
The writer’s case is being heard at the People's Court of Dongying in Shandong, and the first hearing took place earlier in the week.
