Restaurant Sued Over Use Of Songs
A restaurant is being used over its use of five songs by ASCAP. The licensing group for songwriters has sued for up to $150,000 alleging that the Highpoint restaurant used the five songs last summer without gaining permission.The copyright infringement lawsuit was filed against the Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery last month. The licensing group filed over 20 similar lawsuits across the country at the same time.
Among the songs that the eatery is being accused of using without permission are: "Redneck Woman", "Closing Time", "I Get a Kick Out of You", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", and "I Can Only Imagine". It is claimed that the songs were used during live shows at the restaurant.
The co-owner of the restaurant said he was shocked by the lawsuit. He stated: "If they were sure of the songs that were played, if they could show how much we owe over a period of time, we could probably work something out. I'm just in the dark over this."
