According to reports the couple were told that they would need further assistance when they attended the hospital in 2003. They had attended for an antenatal scan, and were told that a second scan was needed. It was during this scan that there was found to be reduced fluid around the baby, but the couple nor the midwives were informed of this issue.
Mrs. Voight began to have contractions in early 2004, but according to reports no heart rate was taken, the baby as not monitored, and urine samples were not taken. Instead Mrs. Voight was simply sent home. The following day Mrs. Voight said that she felt that her baby had stopped moving, and contacted the hospital. After going to the hospital and waiting an hour to be checked, she was finally told that the baby had died.
The hospital had admitted fault and has paid an undisclosed sum to the couple. Officials from the hospital have also stated that proper monitoring of the fluid problem picked up in the initials scans could have helped to save the baby’s life.
