Bedford Inmates Allege Sexual Abuse
Two infamous inmates at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility have filed lawsuit claiming sexual abuse by prison guards. Pamela Smart is the first plaintiff, and she is in the facility for the murder of her husband. The second plaintiff, Carolyn Warmus, is in the facility for the murder of her lover’s wife.The two women have filed federal lawsuit claiming that they were sexually abused by prison guards, and further alleging that when they complained against the abuse they were retaliated against by officials. Both former school teachers, the two women also make allegations against other officials from the corrections department.
In her lawsuit, Smart claimed: "I was assaulted, almost raped, and forced to pose for photos by a corrections officer." She claims to have been made to pose in lingerie as well as alleging an attempted rape. She stated that when she complained about the rape she was placed in 24 hour lock down for 70 days.
Similarly, Warmus also claims sexual abuse, and stated that when she tried to complain about the abuse she was punished in protective custody, as well as being made to trade sexual favors for ordinary privileges.
