Class Action Suit Filed Over General Motor Speedometers
A class action lawsuit has been filed against the General Motors Corp. by two owners of GM vehicles, who claim that the company is guilty of fitting faulty speedometers. According to the plaintiffs the speedometers in sport utility vehicles and light trucks are defective. The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Oregon.The lawsuit has been filed by Chris Christiansen and Terry M. Kelly, who are filing on behalf of themselves as well as on behalf of others in the same situation. Among the accusations made against the General Motors Corp. in the lawsuit are violations of the Oregon Unfair Trade Practices Act, violation of the Oregon Consumer Warranty Act, breach of express and implied warranties, and unjust enrichment/restitution, as well as others.
According to the plaintiffs the defective speedometers fitted in the specified vehicles were malfunctioning and registering incorrect speeds. The plaintiffs add that the company should have known about the defects. Included as part of the class action are all those in the area that purchased an SUV or GM light pick-up between the years of 2003 and 2007.
The lawsuit seeks reimbursement of the monies paid to lease or purchase the vehicles, for actual damages, and for legal costs among other things.
