Cruise Liner Survivors File Lawsuit
The operating company of a cruise liner that sank recently is being sued by those that survived the incident. Several residents from Westchester County are suing both the operating company and the travel agent after the cruise liner sank. They claim that the accident was handled negligently and are asking for compensation for damages and suffering.The cruise liner sank in Greece, and the operating company that is being sued is Louis Cruise Lines. A New York travel agency, Globus, is also being sued. A retired teacher, Elizabeth Burbage, is leading the suit, and around fourteen other survivors are also named on the lawsuit.
The Sea Diamond sank early in April in the Aegean Sea after hitting a volcanic reef. Around sixteen hundred people were rescued in a three hour period following the sinking. However, there were many instances where the liner and the travel company did nothing to protect the passengers according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit also claims that an insurance policy that was purchased from Globus has not been honoured, and cites breach of contract. The lawsuit seeks punitive and compensatory damages.
