Tax Preparation Software Companies To Battle It Out
The tax preparation software company H&R Block Inc. is being sued by another tax preparation software company, Intuit Inc., after being accused of making a television advertisement that is just like one of Intuit’s own advertisements.The plaintiff has accused H&R Block of copyright infringement, stating that its ‘no more tax stores’ ad was being ripped off. A spokesperson from Intuit stated that H&R’s advertisement “copies the physical appearance, dress and mannerisms of the characters in the TurboTax ad, as well as the set, staging and pace of the advertisement.”
Intuit further claims that H&R Block makes misleading claims and comments in its advertisement with regards to the services offered by both companies.
The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. In the meantime, this setback is one in a line of problems for H&R, which also faced problems with its own tax reporting as well as being sued by the New York Attorney General and the California Attorney General.
