Videogame Lawsuit To Move Forward
The Alabama Supreme Court has given the go ahead for a lawsuit to move forward against video game giants Rockstar Games, over killings that took place and were connected to one of the company’s bestselling games, Grand Theft Auto.It is alleged that the violent car theft game was partly responsible for the deaths of two police officers, who were shot by a carjacker in custody. The carjacker, Devin Moore, was in custody when he grabbed a gun of one of the arresting officers and then proceeded to fatally shoot officers Arnold Strickland and Leslie Mealer.
Relatives stated that the boy had been playing the videogame Grand Theft Auto: Vice City just before the arrest and killings. It is further claimed that after the shootings he made a statement to police and said: "Life is a video game; everybody has to die sometime."
Other defendants in the lawsuit include Sony, which manufactures the console for the game, as well as Wal-Mart and GameStop, where the boy allegedly bought his video games.
