Restaurant Owner Sued By Waiters
Designer restaurant owner Michael Chow is being sued by three former waiters. A federal lawsuit has been filed against the restaurant owner, who is a hit with celebrities, claiming that Chow used "degradation as a management technique" at two of his restaurants located in the Manhattan area of New York City.The three ex waiters that have filed the lawsuit also claim that they had tips deducted from them for not listening attentively enough to Chow, as well as for speaking up for themselves or for not having a uniform that looked perfect – a uniform that is paid for out of the waiters' own money. They are filing for five million dollars.
According to one of the lawyers for the plaintiffs, Chow ruled with an iron 'baton', and used to tap or slap waiters' heads to ensure that they were listening attentively. The lawsuit claims that Chow publicly humiliated one of the waiters, who had been a professional waiter for eleven years, after he was late for a meeting because he had gone on an errand for Chow.
Among the celebrities that frequent Chow's eateries are George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert De Niro, and Toby McGuire, among others.
