Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed In 911 Case
A lawsuit alleging wrongful death has been filed earlier this week, after the mother of a 6-year-old boy died even though the young boy phoned 911 to get assistance. When the 6-year-old called for an ambulance, an operator told him to stop playing on the phone, but in fact the boy’s mother, who suffered from an enlarged heart, had collapsed.An attorney for the plaintiffs stated that had an ambulance been sent right away, the chances were that the mother, Sherill Turner, would have survived. Family members of the deceased have filed the lawsuit against two dispatchers following the incident, which occurred on February 20th.
The plaintiff’s attorney added: "We teach our children in the face of an emergency to call for help and call 911. But when children call and ask for help, they're ignored, they're dismissed and they're threatened."
The young boy, Robert Turner, first called and told the emergency services staff that his mother had passed out. However, he was asked to go and get an adult to speak to. He then called back later and stated the same thing, and this is when he was told to stop playing around on the phone.
