American Sues State Department And FBI
The State Department and FBI are being sued by an American who was recently released from jail in Afghanistan after he was accused of torturing people in an illegal jail. The American has accused the State Department and FBI of instigating his arrest and conviction.The man, Edward Carabello, who is a freelance cameraman, plans to act as his own defense in the lawsuit, which will question the role the American authorities played in the charges brought against him and two other Americans in Afghanistan.
Carabello was convicted in 2004 by an Afghan court, and then spent nearly two years in prison. He stated that he was only trying to make a movie about the war on terrorism at the time. The two other men who were convicted and imprisoned were Jonathan Idema and Brent Bennett.
It has been suggested that the claims may be invalid because the man has now been released. However, the judge stated that a government attorney and Carabello need to put forward their arguments on the case before he makes any decision.
