Author Sued For Defamation By Dentist
A five million dollar lawsuit has been filed against ‘The Rules’ author, Ellen Fein, after a dentist, who has apparently treated a number of famous people, accused her of defamation. According to the dentist the author violated the rules after calling him a liar on a website that she created.Fein is the author of the best-seller 'The Rules: Time-tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right'. According to the plaintiff in the case, Dr. Larry W. Rosenthal, and according to his court papers the author created 'a forum for maliciously defaming Dr. Rosenthal and interfering with his dental practice.' The website created by the author is called lyingdentist.com. The dentist filed his lawsuit in the Manhattan state Supreme Court.
Another site against Rosenthal is called baddentist.com, and according to the court papers statements from this site were also used. The site was created by other unhappy patients of Rosenthal’s. The papers stated: 'Among other things, the website carried a statement accusing Dr. Rosenthal of lying, which continues until this day, and incorporated defamatory statements' from BadDentist.com.
According to the lawsuit in 2006 Fein burst into the office of the dentist 'and began to scream at him in front of an office filled with patients, accusing him of, among other things, ruining her life and her marriage.' Statements and comments on her site included 'Larry W. Rosenthal is a Big Fat Liar.'
