Brokeback Mountain Actor Drops Lawsuit
A supporting actor in the recent box office smash, Brokeback Mountain, is dropping the $10 million lawsuit that he filed for being underpaid as a supporting actor in the movie. Actor Randy Quaid had been claiming that he had been underpaid after acting in a supporting role, and in March he filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court.As part of his lawsuit, Quaid had made allegations that he had been persuaded not to ask for his normal rate for his part in the movie as Joe Aguirre, a rancher. He alleged that Focus Features told him that the movie was an independent production that could not pay normal rates due to a low budget.
However, Quaid now claims that the company has reached an agreement with regards to paying him a bonus. Officials speaking on behalf of the actor stated that Quaid has requested that the bonus be split among cast members.
A spokesman for Focus Features has, however, claimed that no bonus has been offered. He said: "The circumstances of him dropping the suit are as mysterious as the circumstances under which he filed his claim. Focus Features never negotiated, offered or agreed to any settlement agreement with Mr. Quaid or his attorneys, but we're happy to put this behind us, and do wish Mr. Quaid the best."
