Over $2 Million In Compensation For Couple Over Spotted Fever
A married couple has been awarded over two million dollars in compensation in relation to two lawsuits that were filed alleging that a nurse failed to treat the wife for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. The nurse, Beth Slyder, is from the Greenville Gynecology Group, and according to court records the plaintiff, Mrs. Janey House went to see the nurse in 2002 and complained of fever, aches, diarrhoea, and vomiting, informing her that she had been bitten by a tick.However, according to the lawsuit that was filed the nurse failed to examine, diagnose, or treat the patient. The defendants named in the lawsuit are the nurse, Slyder, Greenville Gynecology Group and Dr. William Coleman. The courts awarded the couple $2.45 million in compensation, with Mrs. House receiving $2.2 million and her husband receiving two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
According to the lawsuits, after her visit to see the nurse Mrs. House’s condition worsened, but she was simply told to force down fluids in telephone conversations with the nurse. She then returned to the clinic to get medication and intravenous fluids, but was told by a doctor to return the next day as he had to order them, states the lawsuit.
The lawsuit goes on to state that a couple of hours after the last visit Mrs. House was near death and had to be driven to the emergency room. As a result of organ failure she had to have portions of her fingers and toes amputated after gangrene set in.
