Daniel Pearl's Widow Filed Lawsuit
The widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was abducted and murdered in 2002, has filed a lawsuit over the death of her husband. In her lawsuit she has named defendants that include alleged Al-Qaeda kingpin Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who claimed responsibility for beheading Pearl, Al-Qaeda, and Pakistan's Habib Bank.The lawsuit claims that the defendants violated laws that include the Anti-Terrorism Act and Torture Victim Protection Act. The defendants named in the lawsuit are accused of assisting in the abduction and murder of Pearl through various provisions such as providing food, equipment, financial support, shelter, and more.
Peal's widow stated: "I am looking for the truth of what happened to Daniel, for our family, our friends, and the public record. This process allows us to delve deeper into the investigation, and to bring accountability and punishment to those involved with his kidnapping, torture and murder."
Pearl was captured and beheaded in 2002, and a video of the beheading was circulated on the Internet. A lawyer working for his widow stated: "This action seeks to expose and hold accountable the perpetrators and financiers of Daniel Pearl's kidnapping and death."
