Former CIA Operative Loses Lawsuit
A former CIA operative who filed a lawsuit against the government for leaking her secret agency identity has lost her case. Valerie Plame filed her lawsuit against various Bush Administration officials, including vice president Dick Cheney.According the Ms. Plame, who is married to the former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, Cheney and various other officials conspired to release details of her identity in 2003. She claimed that this was payback for the fact that her husband had criticized the government's Iraq war policy, and that her privacy rights had been violated.
According to reports the former CIA agent's identity was revealed in 2003 in a newspaper column. This was shortly after her husband criticized the government's Iraq war policy.
The couple will now appeal after Ms. Plame lost the case. Mr. Wilson stated: “This case is not just about what top government officials did to Valerie and me. We brought this suit because we strongly believe that politicizing intelligence ultimately serves only to undermine the security of our nation.”
