The blatant disregards for the concerns expressed over experiments has led to staff being too intimidated to speak up about their concerns over safety, even if they are concerned. One official stated, “Because of the disregard and intimidation, you don't hold up any projects even if you feel there are safety issues for certain projects."
A variety of harassment has been listed in documents that have been investigated. This includes a manager sending an item of underwear to another worker, bosses being overly tactile with staff members, and other harassing and intimidating actions and events.
The National Institute of Health is looking into the allegations, and have stated that steps will be taken although no specific information could be provide as investigations were still ongoing. A spokesperson stated, "Sexual harassment is not tolerated at NIH and we are committed to ensuring that all employees are treated with dignity and respect."
