Gambling Writer Want Cash From Casino
The writer of a number of gambling articles and a book relating to the same topic is asking the courts to order a casino to pay him $150,000 as well as asking for permission to sue the state. Jaes Grosjean states that he was handcuffed and searched in February 2001 by staff at the Imperial Palace.He wants permission to sue the state because of the involvement of a couple of gaming agents on the night in question. This is an appeal by Grosjean, as his original successful award was lowered by a judge. The appeal is to be heard this week at the Nevada Supreme Court.
Attorneys speaking on behalf of the plaintiff have stated that $150,000, which was half of the jury’s award for punitive damages, is nothing to the popular hotel. However, hotel officials state that the agents involved were acting on behalf of the state and therefore the case should be thrown out.
It is alleged that the agents were watching Grosjean and his friend on the night in question, as the two had been arrested before after allegedly cheating. However, no charges were ever filed with regards to the allegations.
