Tara Pollock stated that during the camping trip an ember from the camp fire landed on her son’s pants, which went up in flames. It is alleged that the boy now has permanent scarring on his legs, and had to be hospitalized for a number of days following the incident.
An investigation has been carried out by the US Consumer Products Safety Commissioner, and this investigation concluded that the item of clothing in question failed to comply with the Flammable Fabrics Act. The boy was just 13 at the time the incident occurred.
An attorney for the family stated: "Any children's sleepwear there's a standard with regards to flammability that they have to meet." However, a GAP spokesperson stated that the company works closely with manufacturers to ensure compliance to safety standards.
