Tasered Microsoft Employee To Sue Police
Several Redmond police officers, the police chief, and the city of Redmond are being sued by a Microsoft worker who claims that a police officer from the city tasered her with 50,000 volts of electricity when she was in a diabetic shock. The plaintiff claims that the officer assumed she was drunk when he tasered her.Thirty-two year-old Leila Fuchs said: "I was so out of it. There was no way I could've been a threat to anyone." It is alleged that the officer smashed the woman’s car window when she failed to unlock the door, and then proceeded to shoot her with the taser gun.
Police Lt. Charlie Gorman was the officer present at the incident, and he claims that the woman simply sat and stared as he issued a number of warnings for her to unlock the car door. He stated: "I produced my X-26 Taser and told her that if she did not comply with my order to unlock her door that I was going to use my Taser on her. She looked away from me without responding and stared straight ahead. I shouted the Taser warning and deployed my Taser from a distance of five feet. The female reacted by screaming and stiffening her body."
No presence of alcohol was found in tests that were carried out on the plaintiff following the incident. She added: "The thing that really bothers me is that the police department was completely unresponsive to me after the incident. ... They act like nothing happened. I want the public to know that there is a complete lack of training in the Redmond Police Department when it comes to medical issues like diabetic hypoglycemic shock."
