Shocking Birth Injury Statistics
Reports and research performed over the past couple of years have revealed that at least twenty-seven out of every one thousand babies born suffer birth injuries. The studies further revealed that the parents, and in particular the mother, builds up such a trust in the medical team and doctor that more often than not the parents blame themselves for the injury.One law firm spokesman stated, "Mothers have a deep respect for the doctor and nurses who helped bring their baby into the world. Because of this a very sad and tragic result is that often the mother blames herself for the birth injury. She just cannot perceive the doctor might be negligent."
The spokesman added, "And beyond compensation it is important that responsibility be appropriately assigned so the mother does not suffer needless emotional stress." This final comment aims to show that a successful lawsuit for birth injuries is not all about getting money for the injuries caused to the child but also to reduce unnecessary stress on the parents in the event that they have been blaming themselves.
There are a number of common injuries that can be sustained at birth for various reasons, including negligence. There are also many reasons why these birth defects and injuries may occur.
