A lawyer for the North Carolina man who filed the lawsuit stated: "We amicably settled, and that's all we can say." The lawsuit was filed by Cedrick Bobby Lemon in May of 2002. The lawsuit related to a Mary J. Blige concert, at which time Combs was Blige’s manager.
The lawsuit alleges that Lemon was working as a limousine driver at the time, and had the relevant ID that allowed him to stand backstage during Blige’s 1995 concert at the Joel Coliseum. The lawsuit goes on to claim that the two bodyguards tried to clear Lemon from the area, and punched and kicked him, breaking his ankle in the process.
The lawsuit accuses Combs of negligence for failure to stop the bodyguards from acting as they did. The case had already been settled by a judge for $2.5 million, which was then reduced to less than half a million, but this was then voided by the court of appeals and sent back to the courts.
