Doctors Cleared Of Liability In Death Of Woman
Two doctors have been cleared of liability in connection with the death of a woman who died hours after giving birth by caesarean section. The two doctors from the Newton Wellesley hospital were cleared by a jury in Suffolk County, following the death of the woman in 1997.Dr. Susan Arnold-Aldea, an obstetrician-gynecologist, and Dr. Paul R. Satwicz, an anesthesiologist, were accused of negligence after the 27-year-old woman died after giving birth. However, the judge and jury found that neither doctor was guilty of negligence in the case. An investigation into the death of the woman began because she was the second woman in one week who had died after giving birth.
A lawyer for one of the doctors stated: ``It's hard to have any happy feelings when there's such a tragic event, but my client is pleased that the jury returned a verdict in her favor." Lawyers for the defense had argued that it was actually an undiagnosed heart problem that had caused the death of the woman.
After hearing the verdict in court, the husband of the deceased woman ran from the courtroom according to reports. The brother of the deceased woman stated: ``We are left here . . . as a family who still may not learn what happened. If there's any injustice, that's maybe the biggest one."
