Family Of Drowned Soccer Player File Lawsuit
The family of a soccer player from Africa has filed a federal lawsuit after the soccer player drowned. The Lawrence University soccer player died in September, and the lawsuit alleges negligence in the incident. The 21-year-old, Kwabena Buanya, drowned while swimming as part of what the school described as a team building exercise.During the exercise, another student realized that the player was missing, and he was then found at the bottom of the pool. The verdict on the death was accidental drowning, and no criminal wrongdoing was found during investigations.
The lawsuit filed by the boy’s parents is seeking around $75,000 in damages, but officials state that this figure could increase and is simply the minimum required to have a case dealt with in the federal courts.
As part of the lawsuit, allegations have been made of negligence on the part of the school, stating that inadequate lifesaving equipment or lifeguards were provided, and that the assistant coach was not even a competent swimmer.
