De Niro Asks For Lawsuit To Be Dismissed
Hollywood actor Robert De Niro has asked courts to dismiss a lawsuit that has been filed against him over an insurance payout for delayed filming of one of his movies. The lawsuit was filed against De Niro by the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, which paid out for a delay in the filming of Hide and Seek, which was released by Fox.According to reports sixty-three year-old De Niro signed a medical certificate for the insurance company on October 13th 2003 stating that he had not been diagnosed with or treated for any prostate problems. On October 15th, two days later, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, having been through a prostate gland biopsy on October 10th.
As a result of the diagnosis the filming of his movie Hide and Seek was delayed, and the insurance company paid out nearly two million dollars to Fox to cover the cost of the delay. The insurance company then filed a lawsuit against De Niro in October of last year, stating that the actor "failed to fully disclose information which was critical to our decision to offer insurance coverage."
The company added: "As a result, the film had to be postponed for four months, at a significant cost to the motion picture production company. Fireman's Fund paid the resulting claim in full, honoring its policy."
