The woman that was attacked, a 46-year-old, was sitting on a wall on the owner’s property at the time she was attacked. The dog caused a number of injuries, including head injuries. Faust, the blue-nosed American Staffordshire terrier, is known to have been involved in another attack in addition to this latest one. Maui County Animal Control Board orders were put into place after the first attack, whereby the owner was supposed to confine the animal.
Because the dog was not confined at the time of the second attack, the owner of the animal, Scott Barrie, was found to be in violation of these orders. The dog was then put into the care of the Board, until the petition for its destruction was filed by the Humane Society in January.
With regards to the non-compliance of orders, the owner of the animal now faces a number of penalties, which could include a month in prison as well as fines that could add to over fifteen hundred dollars.
