Jay-Z And Damon Dash Sued Over Movie
The rapper, Jay-Z and his former partner Damon Dash, are being sued for fifteen million dollars by an author that claims the pair stole ideas from his book for a movie. According to the author, Antonne Jones from Philadelphia, the pair stole ideas from his book, “The Family: A Philadelphia Story for the 2002 movie State Property.”The lawsuit was filed in New York's Manhattan Federal Court earlier in May. Jones claims that he offered to sell the rights to his book to the pair for five hundred thousand dollars, but this was turned down. He stated that Jay-Z and Damon Dash offered him fifty thousand dollars instead, and after he turned down their offer he didn't hear from them again.
According to Jones the movie ‘State Property’ bore a striking resemblance to his book. He is seeking fifteen million dollars in damages from the pair, and from the distribution company for the movie, Lions Gate. The movie made over two million at the box office when it was released in 2002.
According to reports the rapper and his former partner are stunned by the multi-million dollar lawsuit that has been brought against them by the author.
