The lawsuit is seeking to have the company hire those denied employment, and to provide back pay and other benefits. The US Labor Department said in a statement that between 1998 and 1999 the company followed “hiring process and selection procedures that discriminated against hundreds of female applicants for entry-level positions on the basis of gender.”
The company is denying the charges according to a spokesperson for Goodyear, who also added that the company is trying to reach a resolution through discussions with the US Labor Department. Routine reviews alerted the department to the discrimination according to reports, which is prohibited because the company is a federal contractor.
A Labor Department spokesperson stated: "Companies doing business with the federal government have a responsibility to take all of the steps necessary to establish and maintain an equal opportunity employment program."
