Accident With Police Officer Results In Two Compensation Payouts
Two compensation claims have been settled following a road traffic accident in 2003 involving a Louisville police officer. The officer’s cruiser resulted in one man being killed in the accident and another person being seriously injured. The family of the deceased and the member of the public that was injured both filed for compensation and the settlements have now been awarded.Officer Eugene Fey, Jr. was apparently driving his cruiser without either lights or a siren on in May 2003. The police car hit a Ford Explorer being driven by Edward Litsey, Jr., and unfortunately the driver was killed as a result of the crash. The family of Mr. Litsey filed for compensation, and recently received a settlement of $575, 000 for the wrongful death of the man.
In addition to hitting Mr. Litsey’s Ford Explorer, Officer Fey’s vehicle also careened into a member of the public who was waiting at a bus stop nearby. Pedro Garcia Perez suffered serious injuries after being hit by the cruiser, including broken ribs and a cracked skull. He also filed for compensation and received $100,000.
The funding for the payouts came from a number of sources, including the legal defence fund of the city, as well as a fund contributed to by a number of public organizations.
