KFC Sued For Using Trans Fat
Fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken is being sued for its use of trans fat according to reports in the Wall Street Journal. It is claimed that the food industry watchdog, The Center for Science in the Public Interest, is the agency suing the fast food chain.The lawsuit has apparently been filed as the result of KFC using cooking oils that contain trans fat. The watchdog group went on to say that the trans fats could prove harmful to the health of customers, and was only being used by KFC because it made economical sense.
Officials from the watchdog group spoke out at a recent news conference, stating that the fast food restaurants need to either place notices in their restaurants warning potential customers that some of the foods are high in this type of fat, and that this can be harmful to their health.
Alternatively, stated the lawsuit, KFC should be stopped from using oils that contain these trans fats. A spokesperson for KFC stated: “All KFC products are safe to eat and meet or exceed all government regulations, and we take health and safety issues very seriously.”
