High School Molds Not Dangerous
Following the testing of mold found in the gymnasium and the band room of Argonaut High School, Amador County officials have stated that the mold in the gymnasium has now been identified and is not dangerous. However, the specimens in the band room still have to be identified.School Superintendent, Mike Carey, stated that there was no danger and that “only two areas were found to have a count of more than two spores…opinions among experts vary, but up to five spores in a test area seemed to be the acceptable threshold.” He added, “The district also needs to identify and eliminate all sources of water intrusion related to the gym,” Carey said. “Since the gym was to have a roof replacement this summer, plans are already underway.”
Testing is being carried out by experts in the field, and the school has been liaising with the health department to keep things up to speed. Carey stated that any water damaged areas that could be the result of the mold in various areas of the school will be looked at, and testing will be carried out after repairs have been made.
He stated, “The conclusion, based on discussions with the consultants, is that there is no reason to do further sampling or testing at Argonaut until repair work is completed. As for other tests conducted this year, two classrooms at Pioneer School were assessed in the fall and found to be mold-free. At Jackson Junior High School, a sixth grade classroom was tested on three occasions and came up clean each time and a locker area at the school was also tested with no mold findings.”
